Kathiresan: When I began my tech career in 2008, at the height of the Great Recession, quality engineering wasn’t seen as a promising or essential field. Many organizations lacked a quality engineering team because they didn’t fully grasp the impact of quality on the user experience. Quality engineers were undervalued, and this stigma was reflected in hiring practices throughout big tech companies. At that time, the ratio was roughly 20 developers to every quality engineer. Since then, the perception of quality engineering has changed drastically.
