Agartala, Nov 30 (IANS): A bus carrying 28 passengers from both India and Bangladesh met with a minor accident on Saturday in Brahmanbaria while the vehicle was travelling towards Dhaka from Agartala, an official said, adding there were, however, no casualties from the incident. A Transport Department official here said that the Dhaka-bound bus owned by Shyamoli Paribahan of Bangladesh carrying 28 passengers -- 17 Indian and 11 Bangladeshi nationals -- left Agartala on Saturday morning. When the bus reached Ashuganj (in Brahmanbaria), 31 km from the Agartala-Akhaura Integrated Check Post, a goods-laden truck tried to overtake it and the bus collided with an auto-rickshaw, leading to a commotion among the local people, the official said. The driver of the bus and his assistant, after hectic negotiations, paid for damages to the auto-rickshaw driver, and left for Dhaka. None of the passengers on the bus and the auto rickshaw were injured in the incident. Of the 17 Indian passengers, including three women and a child, six passengers were supposed to go to Kolkata by another bus from Dhaka. Meanwhile, Tripura Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury in a social media post said that local residents of Brahmanbaria threatened the Indian passengers travelling on the bus and raised anti-India slogans, made derogatory remarks and even threatened the passengers onboard. "The Indian passengers became frightened due to the unpleasant situation," the Tripura Minister said and strongly condemned the incident and called for immediate intervention by the Bangladeshi authorities to ensure the safety of Indian travellers. After a bilateral agreement, Agartala-Dhaka bus service was introduced in 2003 and a direct bus service from Kolkata-Dhaka-Agartala was started in 2015. The bus service was suspended in March 2020 after the outbreak of Covid-19 and the restrictions imposed on cross-border movement, and it resumed in June 2022. Following the recent unrest in Bangladesh, the bus service has currently become irregular.Paris: A divided Parliament, a Prime Minister in difficulty, a stalled budget, a President in a political limbo since the dissolution and re-election of his government; there is a general sentiment in the air that the French President, Emmanuel Macron needs to resign. There have been several calls for his resignation in the recent days. Earlier this week, Jean-François Copé, a French politician of the right-wing political party, Les Républicains called for the organisation of an early presidential election, gauging that French President Emmanuel Macron will not be able to continue till 2027 which is the end of his mandate, given the current political situation. The general budget rapporteur in the National Assembly, Charles de Courson from the Les Centristes party also told the press this week that “the only solution to respond to the political chaos caused by the dissolution of the National Assembly would be a resignation of the President of the Republic.” The extreme right National Rally’s MP, Sébastien Chenu also echoed a similar opinion. The latest to sound the ‘knell of resignation’ was Manuel Bompard, the coordinator of the left-wing party, La France Insoumise (LFI) He sent a letter this Friday to the Home Minister, Bruno Retailleau to find out the modalities of organising an early Presidential election. Prime Minister Michel Barnier's government that has been formed with a lot of hiccups owing to political deadlock is under a serious threat of a motion of no confidence. The left-wing parties and the National Rally are vehemently opposing Barnier’s government on the budget texts currently being debated in Parliament. LFI is again trying to bring about a new impeachment procedure against Macron, after their first attempt was rejected in early October. According to a poll carried out by a French research and analysis institute, ELABE, 63% of the French are in favour of the resignation of Emmanuel Macron. This opinion is widely shared by National Rally voters (83%) and those of the left-wing parties that make up the coalition New Popular Front (76%), but also by a portion of Les Républicains voters (48%) and surprisingly even 27% of those of Macron’s own coalition, Ensemble pour la République . Even though the French President’s resignation is currently only hypothetical, the French Constitution does allow for the head of state to leave office. While the Constitution does not specifically mention this scenario, there is nothing written to thwart it. However, it clearly defines the deadline for organising early presidential elections. In the event of death or resignation of a President, elections must be held at least twenty days and at most thirty-five days after the start of the presidential vacancy. During this period, the presidential functions are exercised by the President of the Senate which is the Upper House of the French Parliament. According to the law on the presidential election by universal suffrage, the government must publish the list of candidates at least fifteen days before the first round of voting. Although the next French presidential election is officially only in April 2027, several politicians have already declared themselves candidates in recent months. Marine Le Pen is but of course the natural choice of the National Rally. Unfortunately for Le Pen, the threat of ineligibility looms over her if convicted in the current EU public funds embezzlement trial. If she is ousted from the race, the President of the National Rally, the young Jordan Bardella will replace her as Presidential candidate. Edouard Philippe, Emmanuel Macron's former Prime Minister has also officially declared himself a candidate. Xavier Bertrand of the right-wing party, Les Republicains is another candidate. As for the left-wing parties, no candidate has come forth. However, several leftist supporters would like to see Jean-Luc Mélenchon of the LFI run for President who himself has hinted that he may be vying for the Presidential throne.None

Via SchiffGold.com, The Cantillon Effect, named after 18th-century economist Richard Cantillon, describes the way newly created money flows through an economy, affecting different sectors and social classes unevenly. When a central bank like the Federal Reserve injects new money into the economy - often through measures like quantitative easing or low interest rates - this money doesn’t distribute itself evenly. Instead, it creates ripple effects that impact different people in distinct ways, often favoring the wealthy and disadvantaging lower-income individuals. The Austrian school of economics uses Cantillon’s observations as a lens to critique monetary policy, particularly in how it exacerbates inequality and distorts prices. To understand Cantillon effects, consider the mechanics of monetary expansion. When the central bank injects new money, it usually flows first to financial institutions, corporations, and government contractors, often through bond purchases or direct lending programs. These recipients gain early access to freshly created money, which gives them an advantage: they can spend or invest it before prices have risen to reflect the increased money supply. By the time this money trickles down to the broader economy, prices may have already increased, diminishing the purchasing power of wages and savings held by average consumers. This phenomenon is directly tied to inflation. When new money is introduced, it often leads to a general rise in prices across the economy, though this effect is not immediate or uniform. For those at the top, the initial wave of new money creates lucrative opportunities: they can buy assets like stocks, real estate, or commodities before these prices are driven up by inflation. However, for the average worker or consumer, inflation manifests in a more damaging way. By the time new money circulates through the economy to the broader public, the prices of essential goods and services—like housing, food, and fuel—have already risen, eroding the purchasing power of wages and savings. The Cantillon Effect, therefore, highlights a key criticism of inflationary monetary policy: it benefits those who have first access to new money at the expense of those who do not. Wealthier individuals, businesses, and financial entities are often the first recipients, allowing them to use this new money to their advantage by investing in assets that outpace inflation. Meanwhile, those lower on the economic ladder experience rising costs without a proportional increase in income, which erodes their purchasing power. The Austrian school of economics views these distortions as symptomatic of a flawed monetary system. Austrian economists argue that when the money supply is manipulated, it sends false signals throughout the economy, creating what economist Ludwig von Mises called “malinvestment.” In a natural market, prices reflect genuine supply and demand, guiding resources to their most efficient uses. However, when the central bank expands the money supply, it artificially lowers interest rates, leading businesses to take on investments that may not be sustainable in the long run. For example, cheap credit may encourage excessive borrowing for real estate projects or speculative investments, inflating asset bubbles. When these bubbles inevitably burst, it’s typically lower-income workers who bear the brunt through job losses and economic contraction. The Cantillon Effect is a critical aspect of how inflation disproportionately impacts the poor. Wealthy individuals and corporations, who have easier access to credit and investments, can protect themselves from inflation by diversifying into assets that appreciate in value. They may own real estate, stocks, or commodities—assets that tend to rise in price as the value of the dollar declines. In contrast, working-class consumers often hold their wealth primarily in cash or limited savings, which do not keep pace with inflation. They feel the direct impact of rising prices on essentials, while their wages stagnate or grow slower than inflation. From an Austrian perspective, these effects reveal the inherent injustice of a fiat currency system. When the money supply can be expanded at will, the purchasing power of the currency continually erodes, hurting those who depend on stable prices to make ends meet. Austrian economists argue for a return to sound money principles, such as a gold standard, which limit the ability of central banks to expand the money supply arbitrarily. Under a sound money system, prices would be more stable, preserving the value of wages and savings over time. The Cantillon Effect thus serves as a powerful illustration of how inflationary monetary policy can lead to unintended, but deeply damaging, social consequences. It underscores the Austrian view that central bank policies, while often well-intentioned, tend to exacerbate inequality and create cycles of boom and bust. For the poor and working class, inflation means diminished purchasing power, greater economic vulnerability, and reduced social mobility. By allowing markets rather than central banks to set the supply of money, the Austrian school contends that economies could achieve more equitable and sustainable growth, free from the distortions and inequities inherent in inflationary policies.

Students Inspire with Creativity: Firefighter Uses Homemade Tool to Rescue Student's Phone from Drainage DitchCOLUMBUS, Ohio — Ryan Day watched his worst fears realized when Ohio State lost to Michigan in 2021, and four years later he’s still letting that loss linger in his head. Now it might’ve just cost him his job. Maybe that’s hyperbolic and premature given the Buckeyes are still a lock to make the College Football Playoff. But now they might need to win the whole thing to keep it from becoming a real possibility. A road that’s made that much harder because the journey now probably starts on the road in a hostile environment. The only person Day and OSU have to blame is themselves. They let that trauma stick around longer than it should’ve. Because instead of fixing their problems, then getting back on the field with their rival and blowing them off the field, they decided to try to prove a point. And they’ve failed miserably at proving it. Ohio State was more concerned with proving it could be tough. Proving it could run the ball whenever it wanted. Proving it could out-Michigan, Michigan. Instead, it should’ve been worrying about itself and doing what it’s always been good at. The thing Day got hired for in the first place. Day was once the one dictating the terms of this rivalry. His offense dropped 62 and 56 points in 2018 and 2019. It would’ve built on that in 2020 had the game not been canceled. But that reality allowed the Wolverines to renegotiate terms with Jim Harbaugh, setting up a brighter future. Michigan flipped the rivalry and stunned the Buckeyes in the process. And they never got over it. Before Saturday, Day had the excuse that his losses were at least to national championship-caliber Michigan teams who also had the aid of Connor Stalions and a sign-stealing scandal. Those excuses don’t exist anymore. Michigan came to Columbus as a 6-5 team with its only goal being to spoil the season of an OSU team that was clearly more talented. It accomplished that goal, officially making the Day era the second coming of the John Cooper era. Is this what Ohio State fans want from its team? Of course not. That might mean Ross Bjork has to have an important conversation six months into his tenure as athletic director. Michigan has officially broken the Buckeyes and it started on a snowy day in Ann Arbor in 2021. It’s lingered ever since. It’s a failure by this team. A failure by the program. A failure by an era of Buckeyes who have spent their entire careers failing to live up to expectations. There is no excuse for what happened. Ryan Day failed. Again. This roster came back to do what it’s done for the past three years. So what happens next could be a fight to save his job.The Education Commission reiterated that Tianjin has always been committed to ensuring equal access to education for all students, regardless of their background or financial situation. The city has various existing support programs and initiatives in place to assist students in need, but the rumored "Free Education Assistance Program" is not one of them.
